This week, the holiday lights are blazing on Broadway, and it's the perfect time for a Big Apple getaway.
"I think it's the magic of Christmas that makes New York the best place to be," one shopper told me.
Ever since Miracle on 34th Street hit the screen in the 1930s, New York City has been a magnet for holiday shoppers around the globe. This week they were drawn to Lincoln Center and Rockefeller Plaza for the tree lightings, and to the chic shops on Fifth Avenue, and Macy's at 34th and Broadway.
And of course, the unique outdoor urban shops at Columbus Circle. Here, shoppers look for one-of-a-kind items.

"I've met a lot of people from all across the United States, even overseas," said one woman.
"We hear a lot of languages being spoken here in the market," said another.
"I don't think New Yorkers ever slow down," added a third.
In our two-night whirlwind getaway, there was the shopping, a night at the opera, and jazz at Cleopatra's Needle on the Upper West Side. The New York pace is infectious!
