NEW YORK, N.Y. (CBS) -- So, here I am, two weeks in a row, talking about New York delis.
But I am compelled because the world famous Stage Delicatessen has, sadly, closed.
As a teenager, my date and I would pass the Stage by on Saturday nights after a movie, to see what celebrities had gathered there.

When in midtown Manhattan, it's been my deli of choice. During a recent interview with manager Gil Kashkin about celebrities and stars that still dropped in and whose autographed pictures lined the walls, he talked about some advice he offered President Clinton when he came in for a bite:
"Look at you -- you're bedraggled! You need some pastrami."
For those who will mourn the loss of the venerable eatery at 53rd Street and Seventh Avenue, there is an equally pastrami-endowed deli just two blocks away at 55th: the Carnegie.
I preferred the Stage because I could get a half sandwich -- more than enough. But that's not on the Carnegie menu.
So, I guess now I'll be eating a whole pastrami. Hold the mustard -– pass the Alka Seltzer!
