Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Live Improv in New York City
By Jay Lloyd
NEW YORK, N.Y. (CBS) -- A getaway to New York City and a night at the theatre doesn't have to break the bank. In fact, it can be very inexpensive.
The Great White Way! Broadway, that is. One ticket can set you back as much as your New York hotel room. One ticket!
But how about Off Broadway, and the surprise-a-minute of improvisational theatre?
"It's very inexpensive entertainment. A lot of bang for the buck, isn't it?," notes our former KYW Newsradio colleague Sam Katz, who does live improv in Gotham.
She's talking about just $10 to $12 a ticket, in a small theatre near Times Square. So small, you feel you're part of the show.
-----
Actually, you may become part of the show! Katz gushes that it's as much fun for the cast as for the audience.
"You go in with an open heart and an empty head," she says. And, on this night, without a script.
Then, after the show, join the cast at the Producers Club theatre bar, on West 44th Street!
You can find improv companies in New York City, or elsewhere, with a simple Internet search. Sam's is called "IRTE" -- the Improvisational Repertory Theatre Ensemble.
