Jawdropping Tale of Overeating
by KYW's medical editor Dr. Brian McDonough
Sometimes you wonder, 'What ever happened to common sense?' For instance, people continue to eat larger and larger portions of food.
In Taiwan, it has gotten to the point where dentists are noticing problems. Apparently certain fastfood restaurants in Taiwan offer burgers that are three inches high. The human mouth is designed to comfortably eat food that is no more than one and a half inches high. The dentists are seeing patients with sore jaws and difficulty opening their mouths due to injuries related to overextending the joint between the jawbone and the temporal bone in front of the ears. They are urging the restaurants to stop selling the burgers.
Of course the bigger question is 'When is enough, enough?'
