January An Echo Of Below-Normal December Temps
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If it seems like the frigid temperatures this month just a continuation of the bitter cold December we endured in the region, you're right.
AccuWeather meteorologists tracking the data say this past December was a lot colder than normal, with the monthly average nearly five degrees below the long-term average -- more like Buffalo, NY.
For January so far, the temperature briefly crept up into the 50s for the first two days of the year, then dipped to a few degrees below the long-term average to as much as 10 degrees below average.

But does that discourage people from bundling up and going outside?
Tiffany (no last name given) decided it was nice enough today for a stroll on Independence Mall with her newborn son, Damon, but she's weary of the seesaw temperatures -- and the snow.
"I can't stand it going from 20 degrees to 40 degrees," she said. "Everyone's getting sick now, so it's terrible. It's 40 degrees today, everything's melting, but we're supposed to have snow tonight, so it's not really a great feeling. You've got to get out and be able to get stuff done, too. And you can't do that when travel is either icy or snow."
Betsy, of Absecon, NJ, was walking along Independence Mall today with her brother, Alex, of May's Landing.
"I think this is the coldest winter I remember in a long time, but that's the way it is," she observed philosophically.
