James Franklin Accidentally Face Times Fan From Philly: 'Coach, You've Got The Wrong Number!'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Aleem Medley, a life-long Penn State fan from Philadelphia, received the best "wrong-number" call of his life.
Penn State football coach and Langhorne, PA native James Franklin, meant to face-time his 6'4", 225-pound defensive end recruit Shareef Miller. Miller, who is from George Washington High School in Northeast Philadelphia, signed with Penn State on Wednesday---National Signing Day.
Instead, Franklin face-timed Medley.
"I guess we were off a digit," Franklin told ESPN.com. "This guy comes on the screen and we're trying to call Shareef Miller and I'm thinking, 'This must be Shareef's older brother or someone I haven't met yet,' and the guy's got a huge smile on his face. He goes, 'Coach Franklin!' And I'm like, 'Yeah! What's going on? Congratulations!'
"He's looking at me like I'm crazy. He goes, 'Coach, I think you've got the wrong number, but this is awesome! It's national signing day! Thanks for calling!'"
Franklin has put together quite a 2015 recruiting class, his first full-class and Penn State first sanction-less class, with 25 commits. 247Sports.com ranks Penn State as the No. 14 class in the country (13 four-star recruits and 12 three-star recruits) and second best in the Big Ten behind Ohio State (No. 6 overall).
"We've got good players here, we just need more of them," Franklin told FoxSports.com. "The fact that we've been able to sign a full class, that's going to help with depth, that's going to help with competition. We want to create the most competitive environment in the country.
"I'm excited about what we're able to get done in our first full year recruiting, but we still got a lot of work to do."
As for the sanctions, which were removed in September restoring Penn State's scholarships, Franklin said they, "Never really effected us in recruiting."
