It's National Record Store Day
By Mike Dougherty
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Since 2007, the 3rd Saturday in April has been National Record Store Day. It began as a plea for support from record store owners who were getting crushed by iTunes. Now, the day has grown into a full-fledged celebration of vinyl, which is still king for some.
At Repo Records on South Street, owner Dan Matherson says this is like Christmas for them.
"Oh it's fun, you know, for the last few years it's been rough. Stores are closing left and right, and this is just great because you see how crowded it is. So many people are here."
While browsing for a David Bowie record, Aaron says stores like this have more to offer than any website.
"I like the people, they're nice to you, they help you out. You share taste with them, you know?" Aaron says. He feels that if you're going to buy music, you might as well get something physical in your hands.
"The artwork, what it comes with, the downloads. It's just as good as anything else. If you're going to pay for it and support the artist, why not have a physical copy of it?" Aaron says.
And many records these days come with digital copies to put on your iPod.
