Irish Heritage Festival Held At Penn's Landing
by Mike Dougherty
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The PECO summer multi-cultural series at Penn's Landing got started with the Irish Heritage Festival on Sunday.
This is the first of eight ethnic celebrations at Penn's Landing.
Michael Bradley is the Irish festival organizer and says it's important for people to learn about each other's way of life.
"You're starting to see diversity really being a big issue right now because I think it makes our cities better. I say it makes our land better, and I think everybody has to embrace the differences and celebrate what's unique about them as well," he said.
Terria is from Philly and says she comes to as many of these free festivals as she can because she likes being exposed to different things. We caught up to her while she was running on an empty stomach.
"You know, I was looking for the corned beef cabbage and potatoes, but I don't see that out here. I love that Irish dish!" she said.
On a hot day like this, an ice-cold Guinness doesn't sound like a bad idea either.
Eileen and her husband say it was a beautiful day for a stroll along the river.
"I love it. I love the music, and buying stuff. I already bought my great grandson a sweatshirt," said Eileen.
