Iona Defeats Drexel 81-62
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A.J. English scored 19, David Laury had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Iona made 10 3-pointers to beat Drexel 81-62 on Sunday.
Iona (8-4) scored 10 straight to go up 62-45 on Laury's 3-pointer with 9:27 left. Drexel (2-9) got the lead down to 70-58 with 4:50 to play, but Iona answered with another nine straight.
The Gaels took control in the first half with an 11-4 run to go ahead 28-21 on English's three-point play and ended the half with six straight points for their largest first-half lead at 40-29 on Schadrac Casimir's 3-pointer 10 seconds before the break.
Casimir finished with 16 points, Kelvin Amayo added 14 and Ryden Hines grabbed 10 rebounds for the Gaels.
Tavon Allen and Damion Lee led Drexel with 18 points apiece. Drexel cut the second-half deficit no closer than 52-45 on Lee's free throws with 12:55 to play.
