Investors Plan Spring 2012 Opening For Casino In Valley Forge
HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - Investors have told state gaming regulators that they expect to have the region's newest casino, at the Valley Forge Convention Center, open about a year from now.
Last month, when the state Supreme Court upheld the Gaming Control Board's decision to place a smaller "resort" casino at the Valley Forge Convention Center, the board's chairman said he thought the new facility could be open by the end of the year. But now board spokesman Richard McGarvey says investors say they're aiming for next spring.
"They're looking at opening sometime in the spring of 2012. [They] did not have a specific date for it. In other words, what part of the spring. The board members did ask for additional information in the future so we can really pin down a specific date, but right now we're just looking at spring 2012."
McGarvey says the update came as investors sought and won approval from the board to move the gaming floor from the lower level of the Valley Forge Convention Center to the main floor and nearly double the original proposed size to nearly 33,000 square feet. There are also plans for a food court and retail space.
