Interfaith Walk To Be Held To Promote Peace, Reconciliation
By Lynne Adkins
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Hundreds of people of all faiths will be walking through Philadelphia Sunday to promote peace and understanding of different beliefs.
The route takes the walkers to a mosque, a church and a synagogue to learn about the different faiths and their beliefs.
Vic Compher, a founding member of the Philadelphia Interfaith Walk for Peace and Reconciliation, says the event takes on added meaning after the marathon bombings by two radical Islamic Jihadists.
"I guess we think it's especially important right now, especially when we think about what happened in Boston, for example. We really need to create a calming, accepting spirit and not jump to conclusions about each other as is sometimes the tendency when there is a lot of emotions in the air," says Compher.
It all begins at 2 p.m. at the Al Aqsa Islamic Center on Germantown Avenue.
