Intense Flames Force Fiery Escape At Southwest Philly Home
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Officials say a woman escaped a fire Sunday morning at a home in the Kingsessing section of Philadelphia by jumping from a window.
The blaze broke out just before 11 a.m. on the 5700 block of Grays Avenue.
Officials say the 52-year-old woman jumped from a third-story window to escape the fire. She was taken to Presbyterian Hospital with burns and other minor injuries.
Neighbors say after the woman stepped out on the awning, she jumped, then fell on top of a car parked below and then onto the ground.
"She was covered in soot and she was very scared, you could tell by her face. She was disoriented, so it was very scary," this woman, who tried to help the victim after witnessing her jump, tells CBS 3 Eyewitness News.
A man in his 20's was also inside the home when the fire broke out, but he was able to escape by running out, according to officials.
There's no word yet what caused the blaze, but officials say it likely started in the front of the home.
