Inside Job Eyed In Armed Robbery Of Atlantic City Restaurant
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) – Investigators are exploring the possibility that the armed robbery of a restaurant in Atlantic City was an inside job.
The robbery happened at about 3:55 a.m. on March 3rd at the Johnny Rockets restaurant at Bally's Hotel/Casino in the 1900 block of Boardwalk.
According to investigators, the suspect knocked on the rear door of the restaurant and told the manager he was with "Bally's security." When the manager opened the door, the suspect placed a handgun against her forehead and told her he would shoot her if she didn't cooperate.
The suspect ordered the manager to open the safe and had her place money into deposit bags, which he placed into a backpack. An undetermined amount of cash was stolen.
The suspect then tied the victim's wrists and feet together and threw her to the ground. She was eventually able to free herself and she called police. The manager was not seriously injured.
Authorities say the suspect left via Park Place on a bike heading north toward Pacific Avenue. It is also believed that a second male suspect brought the bike to the location on Park Place.
The first suspect is described as a black or Hispanic male approximately 5'8" with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black baggy coat, khaki pants, black gloves and had a black mask that covered his entire face. In addition, the suspect was also wearing black slip-resistant server style shoes. The pants and shoes matched the uniform worn by all employees of the restaurant.
Investigators are looking into the possibility that the suspect is a current or former employee of the restaurant. The entrance used by the suspect is accessible to employees only.
