In South Philadelphia, Neighbors Help Neighbors Deal With Late-Winter Snowfall

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Once the snow started coming down, people across the Delaware Valley were out shoveling, trying to keep up with it.
In South Philadelphia, the motto for many was, Early and Often.
"I'll do it now, and I'll probably come back out in maybe two or three hours, do it again, then put some salt down," said one man we spoke with.
"As long as it keeps snowing, it's going to take all day," said another. "I figured I would just get as much out as I could now. Plus, I'm bored in the house," he added.
A lot of the residents who were out shoveling were helping Philadelphia live up to its nickname as the City of Brotherly Love by giving their neighbors a helping hand.
"I usually do one, two, three, four, or five houses," said one man wielding a snow shovel.
"I do my neighbors as well," said another. "Some of them are elderly, so I take care of them so they don't have to come out here."
And as far as the South Philadelphia tradition of saving a shoveled-out parking spot with a chair or other object, many of the shovlers today said this snowfall isn't enough to make them take those measures.
