In Roxborough, Summer 'Day Camp' For Older Residents Wraps Up
By Kim Glovas
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- More than a dozen senior citizens gathered today at the Roxborough Salvation Army Community Center for the final day of two weeks of "senior summer camp."
The fourteen seniors gathered in the basement of the community center for the finale barbecue, and games.
Marci Cooper, program director for the Salvation Army, says it's been a busy couple of weeks.
"We went on some trips, and we had some crafts, and we had some activities going on in the building which were very exciting," she says.
Betty Hebal was one of the card players who was waiting a bit to fill up her plate. She says she keeps coming back because "just all of the people, that we have all kinds of things to do. We missed our Peddler's Village yesterday because of the rain, but otherwise we still had fun."
The rain detoured the group to the Montgomery Mall.
"We went out in that rain and we didn't need a boat," Hebal said today. "The van got us there and brought us back."
It's the third year for the senior summer camp, and those attending can't wait for next year.
