PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--An iconic statue representing the best of police work has been restored and rededicated outside Philadelphia Police Headquarters at 8th and Race Streets.
The bronze statue, "A Friend," showing an officer holding a child, has been restored and rededicated on its pedestal outside the roundhouse on Race Street.
It was restored with funding from the Kal and Lucille Rudman Foundation.
Inge Parks was on hand with her renowned sculptor husband Charles when the statue was unveiled in 1977, and she returned this week for the re-dedication.
Parks says, "It's remarkable how it changed from all those years of air pollution and whatever, but it looks as if it was just placed here today. It looks brand new."
She adds, "I know Charles would be delighted to be here today, and he is in spirit."
