Hurricane Sandy Forces Many Towns To Cancel Or Postpone Halloween
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – In light of Hurricane Sandy, many areas have already announced that they are canceling or postponing the holiday. Gov. Chris Christie has also signed an executive order postponing Halloween until Monday, Nov. 5 because he says it's not safe in the wake of damage from Sandy.
The governor says children would face flooding, fallen trees downed power lines and power outages.
A state of emergency still exists in New Jersey because of the storm.
-Pine Hill, NJ schools are closed tomorrow, and Halloween activities in the school and borough are postponed until Friday, Nov. 2nd.
-Cherry Hill, NJ has moved trick-or-treating to Friday, Nov. 2.
-Northfield, NJ has moved trick-or-treating to Saturday, 3 - 6 p.m.
-Evesham, NJ has moved Halloween to Friday, Nov. 2 from 4 - 8 p.m.
-Laurel Springs, NJ has moved Halloween to Friday afternoon.
-Pitman, NJ has moved trick-or-treating to Saturday.
-Runnemede, NJ has moved Halloween to Friday.
-Pennsauken and Merchantville in NJ have moved it to Saturday.
-Mt. Laurel, NJ has moved it to Saturday ending at 9 p.m.
-Oakland Borough, NJ has rescheduled trick-or-treating from 1 - 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3.
-Medford, NJ has rescheduled Halloween to Friday, Nov. 2.
-Mantua Township's Facebook page says the town is postponing trick-or-treating to Saturday, Nov. 3. Curfew is still 8 PM for anyone under the age of 18 years old.
-Bellmawr, in Camden County, has moved Halloween trick-or-treating to Thursday, Nov. 1st, according to police.
-Collingswood, NJ announced on its Facebook page that Halloween trick-or-treating has been postponed until Saturday, Nov. 3 from noon to 4 p.m.
-Salem City, NJ has moved trick-or-treating to Friday, Nov. 2.
-Maple Shade, NJ has postponed Halloween until Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Christie said to expect an executive order later in the week rescheduling Halloween.
