Water Rescues Underway To Save Families From Homes Along Wissahickon Creek In Whitemarsh Township
WHITEMARSH TWP., N.J.(CBS) -- Police and firefighters are using boats to rescue residents trapped in their homes along the Wissahickon Creek in Whitemarsh Township, Montgomery County.
The rescues are taking place near the intersection of Valley Green Road and Stenton Avenue.
Authorities say an elderly couple was among those rescued. The couple escaped the rising waters by fleeing to the upper level of their home where they were met by rescuers at daybreak.
The Wissahickon Creek runs through the development and crested over the bank early Sunday morning.
"Virtually every creek and stream is already at flood stage," said Mayor Nutter. "And there's more to come."
