Hurricane Irene Claims Life Of 64-Year-Old East Norriton Woman
WHITEMARSH TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) - Hurricane Irene claimed the life of a 64-year-old woman from East Norriton Township Sunday morning, according to authorities.
Whitemarsh Police and emergency responders discovered Patricia O'Neill's vehicle in the Wissahickon Creek during the day Sunday while conducting searches and rescues for victims stranded in flood waters.
Earlier in the day, concerned family members of O'Neill alerted East Norriton Police that she did not make it to work. According to authorities, O'Neill told her family she was heading to work at the Flourtown Shopping Center and left her apartment at about 2 a.m.
East Norriton Police made a missing person and vehicle entry which Whitemarsh officials later received when they discovered O'Neill's car.
At about 5 p.m., the victim's family as well as Whitemarsh Police and emergency crews searched through nearby woods, and about a half mile from where the vehicle was found was O'Neill's body, according to police.
Emergency crews assisted the Montgomery County Coroner's Office with the recovery.
