Hundreds To Gather For Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser In Philadelphia

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Hundreds will gather Saturday night for a fundraiser to fight cystic fibrosis and support a 27-year-old Lower Merion woman who is suffering from the fatal disease.

"The thing about Emily is, when you see her, she looks healthy. But she's not," says Liza Kramer, Emily's mother.

Emily Kramer-Golinkoff takes 30 pills a day, and spends three to four hours each day in treatments for the cystic fibrosis (CF) that has stolen two-thirds of her lung function.

There's no cure for CF and those who have it typically don't live past their mid-30's. A year ago, Emily's family and friends made a video and launched a web site to raise awareness about the disease.

Liza says they've raised $220,000 for CF research.

"She's a fantastic 27-year-old girl, woman, and she has lots and lots of people who really, really love her," Liza says.

The fundraiser at Material Culture in East Falls is sold out, but you can still watch the video and help at emilysentourage.org.
