Hundreds Pack Montgomery County Football Stadium To Help Fight Cancer

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- More than 500 people packed a high school football stadium in Montgomery County to raise money and awareness in the ongoing battle to defeat cancer.
The Relay 4 Life began at 9 a.m. Friday and for 24 hours teams walk around the track at Hatboro-Horsham High School raising thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society.
Heavy thunderstorms couldn't dampen their spirit as they were evacuated from the field for a couple of hours. They walk in honor of those who have survived and those who have lost the battle.
"I relay for my grandfather who passed away in 2008 from cancer," said Horsham resident Ashley Rossi, "so this is my way to fight back and make sure no one else has to go through with that."
Organizers say the 24 hours signifies what a cancer patient goes through. The sun going down signifies the diagnosis, the walk itself signifies the fatigue they go through during treatment, and the sun coming up represents remission.
They hope to raise more than $150,000.
