Thousands Expected To Cheer On Athletes During Philadelphia International Pro-Cycling Race
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Hundred of thousands of spectators are expected to cheer on the athletes participating in Sunday's 27th annual pro-cycling race.
Team Cycle City of Sweeden flew into Philadelphia on Tuesday; they are one of the first teams to arrive so that athletes could get used to the temperature, humidity and geography. Ike Visbek is their team director.
"The two biggest challenges for us are first of all the weather conditions, second the Manayunk wall and that's for everyone of course."
The entire team is Swedish except for 24-year-old Michael Chauner of West Chester. His father co-founded the race in 1985.
"They're really nice team, I mean they're straight shooters, really nice, responsible, disciplined. I'm staring to pick up some Swedish words, ones that I really can't say on the air," he chuckled.
Team director Visbek says Michael isn't treated any differently because of who is dad is ....and he jokingly says if they want to talk about him they can do it in front of him in Swedish.
