House Collapses In North Philadelphia, 2 Workers Briefly Trapped
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Two construction workers were temporarily trapped after the side of a home they were working on collapsed in North Philadelphia Friday morning.
The collapse happened at about 9 a.m. at a home in the 900 block of Boston Street.
According to investigators, the two men were working on the outside of the two-story home when an outside wall collapsed, trapping the men under the rumble.
One of the workers was able to free himself moments after the collapse. The second man was freed by rescue crews upon their arrival.
Both men appeared to have escaped major injury, but they were taken to Temple University Hospital for observation.
Officials say a family of three, who was inside the home at the time of collapse, were not injured but were left displaced.
Engineers with the city's License & Inspections Department are expected to inspect the home Friday afternoon.
The house was the third building to partially collapse in the city in less than a week. The rear of a three-story apartment building collapsed in South Philadelphia late Tuesday, hours after the wall of a church crumbled in the Frankford neighborhood. No injuries were reported in either case.
