Horsham Teen Charged With Killing 2 Friends In DUI Car Crash
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Montgomery County authorities say a Horsham, Pa. teenager was drunk and speeding when he lost control of his car and crashed earlier this month, killing two of the four passengers in the vehicle.
Prosecutors say Connor McNicholas, 19, was traveling nearly 100 miles per hour and had a blood alcohol level of .117 (five times the legal limit for someone his age) when he crashed the car just off Witmer Road on August 6th (see previous story).
Now, he's facing numerous charges, including two counts of vehicular homicide while driving intoxicated, which carries a mandatory three years in jail for each count. Today, McNicholas was arraigned and his bail set at $500,000 cash.
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman says McNicholas was driving the other teens home from a party where alcohol was being consumed.
"In and around the vehicle, after the crash, we found a bottle of Captain Morgan Rum, also found a bottle of brandy," she said. "Five boys left the party together."
She says McNicholas also lied to police about knowing his passengers, how fast he was going, and how much he had to drink.
Killed were Robert Nagle and Edward Coombs, both 19. Coombs was a summer intern in the DA's office, so the case will be prosecuted by the state attorney general.
