Homeowners Still Waiting To Raise Sandy-Damaged Houses

OCEAN CITY, NJ - As more New Jersey homeowners in flood zones determine the status of FEMA grants, the sight of elegant homes on wood blocks is certain to increase.
Superstorm Sandy forced Shelley Carroll out of her Bay Avenue home for nine months so repairs could be done on the 1948 Cape Cod-style house.
"Just six inches of water was all it took, " says Carroll, "the mold was the problem."
Carroll and many others must get their homes lifted above flood zone standards face possible insurance hikes or rejections for repair permits.
Homeowners in newly classified flood zones need to get an elevation certificate to find out the status of their homes.
