Homeless Shelter For Veterans Opens in Camden, NJ
By Mark Abrams
CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- The Delaware Valley chapter of Volunteers of America today opened up a new homeless shelter for veterans in Camden.
The $4-million facility is attached to the organization's offices on Atlantic Avenue in Camden, and will provide much-needed support to homeless veterans.
"We have 30 beds of transitional housing for homeless veterans," says Gina Adams, chief operating officer for the group. "So as long as a person is a veteran, had some service, they are eligible to be served here. They will receive case-management services, employment support, meals, semiprivate room accommodations, and transportation."

Adams says the new shelter filled quickly and now has a waiting list. And she says veterans from two eras are finding their way to the shelter: "Vietnam vets or the Desert Storm vets. So there's the older guys that I think people think about when you think about veterans, and then there's the younger guys."
