Home Video Report: Vintage Classics and Near-Classics
By Bob Nelson
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There's no better feeling than being able to watch a movie that was circulating in top form more than 15 years ago. Take the case of Clueless, the 1995 release by Amy Heckerling, now out on Blu-ray. It's a comedy classic worth the wait.
From 1959, Blu-ray is also offering Pillow Talk, another period piece co-starring Rock Hudson and Doris Day. It offers considerable star power but a rather silly plot.
Robert Redford was in his prime in the 1972 western Jeremiah Johnson, playing a shaggy mountain man with a beard living in a snowy mountain home.
And it may be pushing things a bit, but the movie dealing with the pulse and promise of New Year's Eve has the title of that name. It's directed by Garry Marshall and featuring a host of players including James Belushi, Halle Berry, Jon Bon Jovi, and Robert De Niro.
