Home Video Report: Date Night Among New DVDs
Screwball comedies have been popular for years in movieland, and KYW's Bob Nelson reports that this week's video releases point to their popularity on the small screen.
Steve Carrell and Tina Fey co-star in Date Night (above), about a boring couple from New Jersey who head for New York for what they believe will be an exciting outing only to be mistaken for blackmailers. The movie is also available on Blu-ray.
There is also a new Blu-ray release of the popular 1972 farce What's Up, Doc?, with Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neal.
There are other laughers now out, such as Death At A Funeral, a remake of a 2007 British farce dealing with relatives gathering for memorial services. Blu-ray has its own version.
Triage is a straight-to-DVD drama about a war photographer back from Kurdistan without his partner. And there's Crumb, from 1995, dealing with the underground artist Robert Crumb.
The Joneses, with Demi Moore and David Duchovny, is about a couple that seems to have it all but spends its time conning their neighbors. Also on Blu-ray.
Next week: a new release of Black Orpheus, the Oscar-winning best foreign language film from 1959 that was also a winner at the Cannes Film Festival.
