Hite Seen As Next Philadelphia School Superintendent As Martinez Drops Out

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It looks like the short list for Philadelphia's next schools superintendent just got a little shorter.
The Washoe County School District, in Reno, Nev., has named deputy superintendent Pedro Martinez as its interim superintendent. Martinez was one of two finalists for Philadelphia's top school job.
So, presumably that leaves Dr. William Hite as the remaining finalist here.
This morning, School Reform Commission search committee chair Wendell Pritchett said no decision has been made yet.
"We have received a lot of input from all of the different stakeholders," he told KYW Newsradio, "and it's very welcome. Where we stand is that the SRC is having discussions amongst ourselves about who we think we should make an offer to."
Hite and Martinez were named the two finalists last Friday (see related story). They each went on a quick round of interviews and meet-and greets.
Hite seemed to be the consensus choice among City Council members and other community leaders, because he had classroom experience as a former principal (another related story). Martinez has a finance background.
But now that Martinez has been named the superintendent in Reno, the district was expected to turn to Hite.
