Hit And Run Victim Found On Roosevelt Blvd In Critical Condition With Broken Bones
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- A hit-and-run early Wednesday morning on the Roosevelt Boulevard has left a man in critical condition with several broken bones. Police are now searching for the driver who struck him.
It happened around 1:30 a.m. along Roosevelt Boulevard and Front Street in Feltonville.
Police say 25-year-old Emmett Toohey was struck in the crosswalk as he walked against the red light. The driver of the vehicle did not stop.
Toohey was rushed to Einstein Hospital, unconscious. He suffered a broken pelvis, broken leg and bleeding on the brain. The only description from a lone witness was of a dark-colored vehicle, possibly a black or dark-colored Honda or Acura. Police say the vehicle likely has front-end damage.
Authorities say the vehicle was last seen travelling north on the Boulevard. Police Captain John Wilczynski says if the driver had stopped, he probably would not have faced charges. But now...
"There will be a leaving the scene charge, yes, which really complicates it for the driver of the vehicle," Wilczynski says. "Now, of course, the driver of the vehicle still has time to turn himself in and give their side of the story, which would be smart."
Officers were checking nearby surveillance footage for help identifying the vehicle.
Meantime, Wilczynski reported no progress in the investigation into Tuesday's hit-and-run at 11th and Market Streets that cost a local actor his leg.
