History Remade, Flyers-Bruins Gear Up For Game One
VOORHEES, NJ (CBS) - The Boston Bruins are next up for the Flyers with Game One of their series Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia.
It will be the second straight season the two teams will meet in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Last season, the Flyers dropped the first three games to Boston before coming back memorably to win the next four. Coach Peter Laviolette says that is all in the past.
"I don't buy into that whole, what happened last year, or what somebody says in the newspaper. Are they going to play harder than they did last year? I don't think it's possible. You're playing for the Stanley Cup," Laviolette said.
The goaltender the Flyers will have to beat is veteran Tim Thomas who is coming into the series with a 2.25 GAA and a .926 save percentage.
"You don't get here without good goaltending. He's had a good year for them. A competitive guy," Laviolette said.
Flyers Forward Danny Briere leads the team with six playoff goals and is second on the team to Claude Giroux in points with seven. He says the Flyers match up well with the Bruins.
"They're a tough team to play against. They're very physical, but they seem to also bring the best out of us. I'm excited about it," said Briere.
Like the Flyers, the Bruins advanced to the second round with a game seven victory beating Montreal on Wednesday night.
