Crews Battle Blaze On Property Of Historic McNeal Mansion In Burlington
BURLINGTON, N.J. (CBS) - Authorities are trying to figure out the cause of a fire in Burlington, New Jersey. Flames ripped through several buildings on the property of the historic McNeal Mansion on Pearl Street. That's near the Delaware River.
The fire began around 2:30 a.m. Monday.
"There are no injuries to any of the fire personnel or emergency response personnel. Which is always -- always a concern. Right now we don't know anything else as far as if someone, whoever was in here, are they injured," said Mayor Barry Conoway.
The main building is a 10,000 square foot mansion that was built back in the 1880s and was one of the largest homes in the area.
It's been abandoned for decades.
It has also has suffered several fires over the years and has been the target of vandals.
No word on what sparked the blaze.
