Hillary Clinton More Popular in NJ Than Christie, Poll Finds
By David Madden
TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) -- A newly released poll of voter sentiment in the Garden State might give governor Chris Christie cause for concern.
This time last year, the governor was cruising to a re-election landslide. His potential presidential ambitions looked bright.
Now, not so much, according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll.
"(He has) a job approval of 46-45 (percent 'in favor' versus percent 'against') -- a standoff," says poll director Mickey Carroll. "This is the lowest he's been since June of 2011."
And if he were to run for the White House today against Hillary Clinton, the poll finds, she would beat him in his home state by ten points.
What's going on? Carroll suggests that "Bridgegate" continues to dog Christie, along with the state's pension fund crisis.
Women are turning away from Christie in larger numbers, according to the survey, with almost half saying they disapprove of Christie's job performance.
