High-Speed EZ Pass Lanes Open At A.C. Expressway's Egg Harbor Toll Plaza
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) - Today, without fanfare, the Atlantic City Expressway opened its Express EZ Pass lanes through the Egg Harbor toll plaza.
And shore commuters are expected to make a lot of use of them.
You know those summer weekend backups at the Egg Harbor toll plaza? The ones that drive you crazy? Well, if not gone, they'll be a lot shorter now that there are two lanes in each direction where EZ Pass drivers can keep going. No stop, no real slowdown.
"Our design has a lot of signs and markings on the roadway to try and keep the cash-paying customers to the right and the EZ Pass customers to the left," notes Samuel Donelson, deputy executive director of the South Jersey Transportation Authority.
The scanners used to record drivers using transponders can process more than six times the amount of traffic a toll-taker can handle with cash.
Now, be warned: the lane expansion work westbound moves just beyond the toll plaza next month.
