High School Student Helps Erect Historical Marker To Commemorate Delaware's Only Documented Lynching
WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) -- Delaware is remembering a grim part of its history. On Sunday, the state unveiled a historical marker commemorating the only documented lynching in the state.
George White was killed in 1903 after being accused of killing a white woman.
A local high school senior, Savannah Shepherd, spearheaded the effort to have the marker installed. She approached Sen. Darius Brown, who agreed to cover the marker's cost.
