Hidden GPS Tracker Leads Police To Pharmacy Robbery Suspects
By Jim Melwert
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two men are under arrest, suspected of holding up several pharmacies in Northeast Philadelphia. And police are crediting the arrest to a GPS tracking device.
The two held up a Rite Aid in Rhawnhurst at gunpoint Monday night. Police say they took off with pain pills, but they didn't realize, among those pills, there was an implanted GPS tracking device.
Using that device, it took investigators less than an hour to track the two to a home along the 6700 block of Torresdale Avenue.
Police say they recovered the stolen pills, a pair of handguns, and a vehicle believed to be used to make the get-away.
Police are working to link the two to other drug store hold-ups across the region.
