Hernandez To Pitch Phillies Spring Training Opener
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – As the temperatures get back to frigid in Philadelphia this week, the Phillies will officially begin their Grapefruit League schedule in Florida.
Roberto Hernandez will be the starting pitcher the Phillies Spring Training opener on Wednesday against the Blue Jays, according to MLB.COM's Todd Zolecki. Cliff Lee and Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez will pitch Thursday, and the newest Phillies pitcher, AJ Burnett will start Sunday's game against his former team, the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. According to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Kyle Kendrick will start Friday's game, and Ethan Martin will start Saturday's game.
Hernandez, along with Gonzalez and Burnett, were all offseason acquisitions for the Phillies. Most penciled in Gonzalez for the fourth starter slot behind Lee, Hamels and Burnett, even though he has not impressed so far.
