Heavy Thunderstorms, Showers Expected To Continue Through Late Sunday Night
PHIALDELPHIA (CBS) - An areal flood advisory is in effect for southern Bucks, Montgomery, Philadelphia and Delaware counties until 9 p.m. Sunday night.
A little before 4 p.m., the rain moved out of southeastern Pennsylvania, but runoff from the rain that fell over night and early this morning may make its way into streams and creeks in the area.
Officials have also issued a flash flood warning in some parts of Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania including Kent, Sussex, New Castle, Camden, Atlantic, and Montgomery counties (see all counties affected). The flash flood warning remains in affect until Monday at 6 a.m.
In Salem County, the town of Pittsgrove has issued a State of Emergency (see related story). Evacuations are being reported in progress in several locations in Salem and Cumberland County in anticipation of high tide.
Heavy rain and flooding has closed MacDade Boulevard in Darby, Delaware County. Clifton Heights also reportedly has severe flooding in the area between Baltimore Avenue and Springfield Road.
In Gloucester County, Mantua Creek overflowed at about 12:30 Sunday afternoon. Along Delsea Drive, a person had to be rescued from a vehicle due to flooding in the area.
As of 3 p.m., AC Electric reported about 3617 customers were without power. Delmarva Power reported 1060 customers.
Showers and thunderstorms are supposed to continue through the night. A flash flood warning indicates a very dangerous situation. Use caution when traveling. If you are in a location that is prone to flooding, be prepared to move to higher ground.
