Health Officials Concerned As E-Cigarette Use Rises In Younger Generations

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- E-cigarettes continue to lure the younger generation and many health officials are concerned because e-cigs are not regulated by anyone.
A recent survey found the use of e-cigarettes by middle and high school students tripled between 2013-and 2014.
Doctor Aditi Satti, associate professor of medicine at the Temple Lung Center, says it's not very surprising since they can be advertised almost anywhere.
"They are able to market the way tobacco is not currently able to market. They can be on the TV, they can be on the radio, on social media, and until that changes, I would guess that you are going to see a rise in the number of youth being drawn to this."
E-cigarettes are not regulated by the FDA or any other federal agency at this time.
Satti says there just isn't enough data or research available to support e-cig use. She says additives and amounts of nicotine are different in each one.
