Head of a Montco Catholic School Trekking 40 Miles For Fundraiser

ARDSLEY, Pa. (CBS) -- Today was not a good day, weatherwise, to set out on a long walk, but the president of Bishop McDevitt High School, in Wyncote, Pa., was not going to let this morning's torrential rains deter him from beginning a 40-mile walk through Eastern Montgomery County to raise money for his school and awareness for Catholic schools in general.
Students at Good Shepherd Catholic Regional School, in nearby Ardsley, cheered as a rainsoaked Stephen Finley ran up the grade school's driveway.
Finley is a man on a mission.
"We were looking at some ways to create some positive energy at the school," he said today. "We also had some bills to pay, and we didn't want to trade off student financial aid to pay for the snowplowing, and we sort of morphed into this idea of the one-man walk for McDevitt over a weekend."
Finley's 40-mile walk will also include portions of Roslyn, Jenkintown, and Glenside.
Good Shepherd principal Sister Patricia Healey (tenth from left in photo below) says students were looking forward to Finley's arrival all morning.
"It means a lot to them because we're in partnership with the Catholic high schools," she tells KYW Newsradio.

Accompanying Finley on his walk is freshman Brynne Schwegler.
"I think it's a pretty amazing thing that he would do this for our school," she said.
Finley says his key to success is keeping his feet dry. He's changed his socks seven times so far.
