Haverford School's Matt Galambos Chooses Pitt

Philadelphia (CBS)—It was a decision that had to be made, and Matt Galambos, Haverford School's 6-2, 225-pound senior linebacker, is happy that he made it when he did.
Galambos, one of the top-10 players in Southeastern Pennsylvania, announced that he's heading to Pittsburgh to play college football next year on a football scholarship. Galambos choose Pitt over Harvard and Rutgers.
"I guess I wanted to choose Pitt before the season started so it wasn't that much of a distraction," said Galambos, who is projected to play linebacker at Pitt after leading Haverford School last year with 88 tackles. "I wanted to focus on my senior year and get this whole team focused on bringing back an Inter-Ac League championship.
"I choose Pitt because every time I visited there, it felt right to be there. I like the kind of atmosphere there, but they showed love and interest in me. It felt like a family and they were all down-to-earth."
Pitt, according to Galambos, beat out Harvard. The Collingdale, Delaware County resident carries an impressive 4.0 GPA at the highly academic Haverford School and he was looking very strongly beyond his years playing football.
"When I was going through the recruiting process, you can't dismiss the Ivy League," Galambos said. "But I have to admit, I dream about playing in the NFL one day. When I'm a freshman, Pitt will be in the ACC by then. Plus, there is a good buffer zone, far enough where my family can still watch me. I do feel relieved. I can actually say I'm a Division I football player. It's everyone's goal and dream when you first play to play as a Division-I football player. Harvard was No. 2. A good amount of my family and my grandfather stressed that I get that degree because you can't play football your whole life. But I'm happy I made this choice I have no regrets at all."
