Hatboro Asking For Donations To Save Christmas Parade
HATBORO, Pa. (CBS) - Less than a month before the annual Hatboro holiday parade, organizers are hoping local businesses and the community step up to help fund the extravaganza or they may have to cut back.
The Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce says it takes about $10,000 to $12,000 to stage the parade, which has been an annual tradition in Hatboro for more than half a century. But this year, tough economic times have meant fewer donations and sponsors and Chamber operations manager Meredith Baker says that could affect what people see and hear.
"We're looking at a smaller parade. We're looking at not being able to provide the marching bands, to pay for a Mummer's or pay for the float that brings Santa Claus into town."
The chamber gets no funding for the parade, so they rely on sponsorships and other donations.
The parade is scheduled for November 20th. It draws more than 50,000 spectators who line York Road from one end of the borough to the other.
