Hammonton New Jersey Residents Welcome New Health Care Facility
HAMMONTON, NJ (CBS) - It's not the hospital they once had, but residents of Hammonton are about to get a brand new health care facility this week.
The closure of Kessler Memorial Hospital two years ago is still fresh in the minds of many people. AtlantiCare took over the E.R., which will be moving to a new $20-million facility half a mile up on the White Horse Pike.
CEO David Tilton says if a patient's case is too complicated to be handled in Hammonton, "We'll quickly transport them to one of our facilities or if we don't have that service we'll send them to another hospital facility that does provide that care."
The site has space for a helicopter to land, if need be, along with necessary emergency services. "Included here is this full emergency department, which is very needed, very important, also a whole new standard of care for the people of this region."
The new 39,000 square foot building is housed on a 14-acre site and Tilton says locals provided input on what should be included, from clinical labs and doctor's offices to contributions from some three dozen local and regional artists.
