Hagman, Bourque Give Flames Shootout Win Vs. Flyers
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Niklas Hagman and Rene Bourque scored shootout goals to lift the Calgary Flames to a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday.
The Flyers could've won the game in overtime, but Mike Richards' apparent goal -- a slapshot past Miikka Kiprusoff -- was waved off because of an unsportsmanlike conduct call against defenseman Chris Pronger. Officials ruled that Pronger obstructed Kiprusoff's view with his glove.
The crowd didn't appreciate the call and booed vociferously.
Flyers left wing Ville Leino was held by Mark Giordano at 2:17 in overtime, giving Philadelphia a power-play opportunity in the bonus period. Claude Giroux had scored for Philadelphia during the shootout, but Kiprusoff turned away Danny Briere and Richards.
Hagman and Bourque both beat Flyers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky with wrist shots.
The Flames won for only the third time in 13 games. The Flyers, the highest-scoring team in the NHL, lost for only the fourth time in 17 games. They entered the game having scored at least five goals in six of its last eight games.
Philadelphia had scored 22 goals in the previous five games, by 11 different players.
In the only meeting between the teams this season, Zherdev scored the game's first goal -- his eighth of the season -- at 3:09 in the second period. He took a feed from Jody Shelly near the left face-off circle, maneuvered to center ice and beat Kiprusoff to the glove side.
Curtis Glencross evened the score on an unassisted, short-handed breakaway goal. The play began on a turnover by Richards at the Calgary blue line, and ended with a forehand-to-backhand shot past Bobrovsky. The goal was the 10,000th in Flames' history.
Less than two minutes later, van Riemsdyk flicked in a wrist shot off a centering pass from Richards, following Andreas Nodl's swipe of the puck from Robyn Regehr behind the Flames' net.
Van Riemsdyk has three-game goal streak, with six points in his last five games, after not scoring his first goal of the season until Nov. 22 against Montreal.
Steve Staios' tied the game at 2 at 7:09, with a one-timer by Bobrovsky.
Bobrovsky, continuing his strong rookie season, stopped 28 of 30 shots. Kiprusoff made 34 saves.
NOTES: Philadelphia's Scott Hartnell had his four-game point streak snapped. Calgary's Olli Jokinen played in his 900th career NHL game. ... Jay Bouwmeester extended his consecutive games streak to 446, the current longest in the NHL. The streak began on March 6, 2004. ... Forward Matt Stajan missed his second straight game with an upper-body injury suffered on a hit from the Rangers' Marc Staal on Monday.
