Gunmen Attempt To Rob Southwest Philly Business

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are hoping surveillance video will help them apprehend three armed men who attempted to rob an insurance business in Southwest Philadelphia.

The frightening ordeal happened at about 4:15 p.m. December 4 at the Pierce Insurance Agency located in the 500 block of N. 63rd Street.

As the armed suspects entered the store waving guns, the store's owner was assisting a grandmother, her daughter and her grandson with a will.

"They started saying 'Where's the money at? Where's the safe?' I told them that we didn't have a safe," owner Stephen Pierce said.

The suspects then forced the grandson to the ground.

"I knew we were in danger and my main thing was I didn't want them to hurt my mother and grandmother," said the grandson, who asked to not be identified.

The grandmother, 96, and mother began crying and Pierce believes that may have forced the suspects to have a change of heart.

"I think that maybe they saw the emotion in the women and that might have touched their hearts," Pierce said.

Pierce said he has been robbed twice in the 15 years that he has been at the location. He said he plans on installing and sitting behind bulletproof glass moving forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
