Groups Demand Funding For Homeless With AIDS
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Members of AIDS activist groups are demanding that Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter provide millions in permanent funding for housing for homeless people suffering from AIDS.
They gathered in front of City Hall for a bit of street theatre two days after coming out of a meeting with Mayor Nutter dissatisfied about the way he responded to their concerns about a lack of permanent housing for homeless people with AIDS.
The activists want the city to add $2 to 4 million dollars a year in funding to end the housing waiting list for people with AIDS.
At this point, the mayor is described by a spokesman as sympathetic, but non-committal to their concerns, pointing out that many issues are on the table as the budget process gets underway in a very difficult economic climate.
