Group Marks National Day of Prayer in Delaware County, Pa.

By David Madden

MEDIA, Pa. (CBS) -- Today is a "National Day of Prayer" across America, an event held every year since Harry Truman was president.

About a hundred people gathered under a huge American flag at Rose Tree Park in Media, Pa., to pray, joined by members of Delaware County Council who provided them with an official proclamation marking the day.

Co-organizer Patti Bruno (right) thinks it's hard for the Lord to get a word in edgewise these days.

"We've thrown God away. We've thrown Him out of our courts, out of our schools. We're not even allowed to say the word. That hurts Him, and that's not what we were founded on," she says.

The hope among those attending is to bring people back to that foundation and perhaps bring some peace to a land that could use it.

Bruno suggests, in a not-so-subtle way, that the mass shootings in Connecticut and the Boston Marathon bombings are signs from above that those on Earth have lost their way.
