Grand Imperial Poobah: Eagles Would Have Thumped Giants In Pink, Purple, Or Shirtless
By Stan "The Grand Imperial Poobah" Hochman
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- (Editor's Note) Stan Hochman, a Daily News sports columnist for 55 years, has been appearing on 94WIP's morning show for over a year now, settling disputes (and starting new ones) as the "Grand Imperial Poobah." He brings that persona to CBSPhilly.com/poobah on Tuesdays and Thursdays and we welcome input on which issues you want the Poobah to take a good, hard look at. Send requests and ideas for The Poobah to WIPpoobah@gmail.com.
Without further ado, here's The Poobah.
Phil E. Fan: How do you explain the Eagles thumping the Giants, pitching a shutout, dominating in every phase of the game?
Poobah: You can get paralysis from analysis, just sit back for a week and enjoy the 5-1 record, the glow that comes from completely dominating a mouthy team like the New York Football Giants. How did you love it? Let us count the ways. The much maligned defense buried Eli Manning with six sacks and got two more against his late-game sub.
How rare is a shutout? The Eagles last did it 18 years ago, against the same opponent. The offense looked crisp, with LeSean McCoy churning for 149 yards, scurrying through some holes wide enough for a C bus. The special teams continued to sparkle, with Darren Sproles's 43 yard punt return, a partially blocked punt and two field goals.
The nit-pickers even had something to nit-pick about during the bye week. Nick Foles threw two more back-foot, wounded-duck interceptions and you can't do that against a good team. The Giants looked like a dreadful team, but the Eagles had a lot to do with that, winning the battle in the trenches from here to Princeton.
Please don't soil the moment by giving an inch of credit to the mostly-black uniforms. The Eagles would have thumped the Giants Sunday night wearing pink, wearing purple, playing shirtless.
You can hear Stan "The Grand Imperial Poobah" Hochman on the 94WIP Morning Show every Thursday at 7:20am E.T. Send the Philadelphia sports issues you want The Poobah to tackle to WIPpoobah@gmail.com
