Governor's Awards Ceremony At Kimmel Center
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The annual Governor's Awards for the Arts in Pennsylvania took place Tuesday night at the Kimmel Center.
Governor Rendell hosted the final Governor's Awards for the Arts in Pennsylvania ceremony of his term:
"The incredible turnaround in Philadelphia was in great ways motivated and instigated by the Avenue of the Arts and the Kimmel Center itself, so that's what we're celebrated, as well as five great -- and if you count Midge -- six great honorees."
He says the arts in this state have come a long way:
"Well, it's become a driving economic force. There are 62,000 full time equivilent jobs in arts and culture in Pennsylvania and 40,000 of them are in the Southeast region."
And he adds, the arts are very important in a city:
"Always. I mean, when you think of Paris, what do you think of? You think of the great museums and the great performing arts centers, and I think the same is true with Philadelphia and that will be especially true once the Barnes opens."
