Governor Corbett Talks With Dom Giordano About Expanding Medicaid
PHILADELPHIA (CBS)– 1210 WPHT's Dom Giordano spoke with Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett on the hot topic of Washington expanding Medicaid.
Corbett says he believes "there is a Pennsylvania solution for Pennsylvania," and Washington is trying to make a "one size fits all solution, but it doesn't work that way."
He says he is going to announce a new program on Monday, his solution to the government's Medicaid expansion. However, he warns it will require some reform to current Pennsylvania Medicaid programs.
Corbett says, "We want people to have access to quality and affordable healthcare, and affordable is two ways. It is affordable for the people using it and affordable for the taxpayer. "
Corbett says his goal is to reduce the number of people on Medicaid by helping them find good jobs. He wants to get more people into private healthcare programs that are provided by their employers, rather than having people rely on the government for healthcare.
It seems Corbett does not want to accept the Medicaid program coming out of Washington, which projects that soon 1 in 4 people will be on Medicaid, a number that Corbett calls "staggering."
